Month: May 2016

Thank you

I am so proud of all the bands tonight. Thank you all for your support of your child and our band program this year. So much goes into putting on a successful concert. I want to thank all the directors on our band team, Maria Menendez and her awesome 6th grade band, and our outstanding high school directors Chris Carr and Josh Robichaux for all their work behind the scenes.

As the summer approaches I want to direct you to my previous post about summer camps. Any one of those camps would be a fantastic option for your child.

I do expect all personal instruments to be brought home Wednesday and students playing school owned instruments will be able to check out one out to practice over the summer.

Thanks again all.

Summer Camps

I have had a lot of emails from parents asking about summer camps.  Each year we have a lot of students that participate, here are a few around our area:

Sounds of Summer:         http://www.soundsofsummerbandcamp.com

  • A day camp that takes place at Midway Church in Villa Rica
  • Register and Pay Online

Bravo! Music Camp:         http://www.bravomusiccamp.com

  • Over night camp held at Berry College
  • All meals and T-Shirt included.

Encore! Band Camp:       http://www.encorebandcamp.com

  • Over night camp held at Georgia College and State University
  • Register and Pay Online

Summer Camps are an awesome opportunity for your kids to grow as musicians, as well as meet new friends.  All of these camps have a great staff of people running them, and a lot of fun activities each day.  Please consider enrolling your child.

What a Great Trip!!!

We are currently on the way home from an awesome trip to Carowinds. Both the chorus and band had fantastic performances and received superior ratings. But more importantly they were a pleasure to travel with all weekend long and did an awesome job representing our school system.

Thank you to Ms. Menendez and Mrs. Shafer for your help planning and pulling the trip off. Thank you as well to the 15 chaperones that came with us as well. Without you this trip is not possible.

I am one proud director.

Carowinds

If you are the parent of a child taking medication either prescription or over the counter medicine please put the medicine in a ziplock bag with only the amount needed for the weekend. Include details on how and when it should be given. We will have our nurse chaperone hold on to all medications and distribute them as needed.

Thanks

I cannot express how proud I am of my 8th grade band. Their performance tonight at Tabernacle was inspiring.  Thank you to all those who helped setup and tear down. Still a lot to do this week.

Tuesday: new member meeting at the HS for all upcoming 8th graders. 7pm at the HS band room. If you did not sign up originally for band and you would like to get your child signed up, this would be a great time to do it.

Wednesday: jazz band rehearsal. 3-4pm

Thursday: band BBQ for ALL 8th grade band members, regardless of whether you are moving up to the high school. 5:30pm warmup time at the HS. Uniform is band polo, khaki shorts, and tennis shoes. Come get some BBQ and watch your kids play with the HS marching band. It’s gonna be awesome.

Friday: 9:30am meeting in the cafeteria for all Chaperones and students attending the Carowinds trip. Then we hit the road. Your child should go to school until 9:30am or else they will be marked absent. Itinerary will be released tomorrow.

Thanks all, and bravo for a fantastic performance tonight.

Times Tonight

Hello all,

I double checked the time on tonight’s awards presentation at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Turns out it actually begins at 6:30pm not 6pm. So our warmup time can be moved up a bit to 6pm instead of 5:30pm.

8th grade band members please plan to arrive and be seated by 6pm tonight

Thanks

Friendly Reminder

Hello all

Thanks again for another great Band and Chorus Awards Night. It takes a village to keep those kids happy and safe and you came through just like you always do.

8th grade band members have a performance tomorrow night. Warmup  time is at 5:30pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Please try to get there early so we can start at 5:30pm. Uniform should be nice dress, Sunday’s finest, NOT the band uniform.

Volunteer Opportunity:  We will need help setting up at 3:15pm at Tabernacle.

Thanks again. See you tomorrow.
