Month: February 2016

Thank You

Thank you for an awesome week last week with our pre-festival concert.  I hope you all enjoyed seeing the festival bands from the JH and HS.  It is so cool to see where the students get to go with Mr. Robichaux and Mr. Carr in high school.  Certainly a lot to look forward to, especially for our rising 8th graders and the spring trip to New York.

Remember Mr. Carr will be having the informational meeting on March 8th, look for more info as we get closer to that date.

AYP

American Youth Projects (AYP) Fundraiser Roll-Out

Hello CMS and CJHS Band Parents,

It is that time of year again, AYP cards are in and we will be selling them to support the middle school and junior high band programs.  Fundraising is an integral part to running a successful band program, we use the money to purchase and repair equipment, bring in clinicians and extra instructors, as well as purchase new music and supplies.

We ask that everyone get involved both students and parents, bring an extra order form to work and put it in the break room, or the church coffee area.  My goal is to have to order more cards because my students and parents are selling them like hotcakes!!!

Instructions for the fundraiser:

  1. Go out and show people all the deals the card gives them by using your order taker. Each card is $15 (a change from the past) and has unlimited uses up to a year at participating locations.
  2. Bring the $15 to Ms. Menendez or Mr. Huls in a sealed envelope, and you will receive an AYP card the very next day to distribute to your buyers.  Cash is accepted, Checks made payable to CJHS Bands.
  3. Distribute cards to your buyers.

REWARDS:

  1. We will award $50 to the top seller of each grade level, 6th 7th and 8th
  2. For every 5 cards sold you will receive 1 free. (so try and sell 5 before you buy one yourself)
  3. 8th graders get $3 per card sold toward there Carowinds Trip.

We will continue to sell AYP cards for the next few months as we have them, if we sell out we can always order more.  As always if you have any questions you can email Ms. Menendez or Mr. Huls with any questions or concerns.

Let’s get out there and start selling!!!

Friendly Reminder

Our concert begins at 7pm. The band room will be open in case your child forgot their instrument or music.

Please keep these things in mind as you prepare for tonight:

7th graders need to arrive at 6:30pm in uniform and report to the stage.

8th graders need to report at 6:45pm in uniform and report to the seats. Leave cases in the lobby against the wall.

Parking will be tight and getting into the Mac takes a bit longer with the HS construction. Be patient and polite.

Please stay for the entire performance. And be as quiet as possible throughout the entire performance.

Please collect your child’s cell phone prior to the concert starting. They will not need it during the concert.

Thanks all. We are looking forward to performing for you and our guest judges tomorrow night.

Pre-Festival Performance Tomorrow

As you all know our pre-festival concert is tomorrow night at the Mabry Center for the Arts. The concert starts at 7pm and features four of our bands that will travel to festival from CJHS and CHS.

This concert is very exciting because it will be the first time the JH and HS bands have performed on the same concert since I have been a director here. At the very end of the concert after the CHS wind ensemble finishes Mr. Carr will announce next years big trip for the marching band. This is especially exciting for rising 8th graders as they will be eligible to go on this trip.

Please keep these things in mind as you prepare for tomorrow night:

  • 7th graders need to arrive at 6:30pm in uniform and report to the stage.
  • 8th graders need to report at 6:45pm in uniform and report to the seats.
  • Parking will be tight and getting into the Mac takes a bit longer with the HS construction. Be patient and polite.
  • Please stay for the entire performance. And be as quiet as possible throughout the entire performance.
  • Please collect your child’s cell phone prior to the concert starting. They will not need it during the concert.

Thanks all. We are looking forward to performing for you and our guest judges tomorrow night.

Friendly Reminder

Today the 8th grade band will travel to the MAC after school to rehearse from 3-5pm. Pickup will be at the MAC at 5pm. Pickup is difficult there so be patient. Park across the street if it is not raining or not raining too much.

If it is raining a lot I will have the students wait under the awning and we can have them watch for cars.

Thanks

A Huge Thankyou

I just wanted to thank you all for coming out Saturday to our annual Symphonic Camp.  The kids did such a great job working hard and having fun.  It is so important for them to be exposed to new instructors and musicians and learn how to rehearse and play along with them.  We made a lot of progress.

I have decided to let the 7th grade band have a day off tomorrow after school so their will be no after school practice for them.  We will still have jazz band Wednesday though.

District Honor Band students should have their health forms and money in for their trip leaving this Thursday.  DHB parents please email me if you have not seen this paper work.

Thanks all
