Playing Test Reports

Hello All

I thought I would let you know that I have finished chair testing for 7th grade and most of 8th grade.  I have filled out playing test reports for all 7th grade students and handed them back.   8th grade will come back next week.  These reports are designed to let you know what was expected, how the student performed and what they can do to improve.

They will need to be signed by a parent, and returned for an assignment worth 25 points.

When you see your child’s grade report I want you to know that this is just the first take, many students should try again to earn more points.  A lot of students did a great job preparing but more can be done to reach a perfect score.  Their were very few perfect grades.

I hold practice sessions every morning at 7:15am for any students that need help, I also stay after school until around 3:45pm each day.  I will also hear students do retakes before or after class.

Thanks all.

Saturday Feb 6th Symphonic Camp

Hello All,

As we get closer and closer to our Saturday Symphonic Band Camp I just wanted to remind you about the date, the activities, and the opportunity to help volunteer for this awesome event.

Last year we started a new tradition here at CJHS by holding our first ever Symphonic Band Camp.  This camp is designed to give your child some one on one training with someone that plays their specific instrument and a chance to work with a master conductor / educator on stage.

This year we welcome Dr. Andrew Poor. Dr. Poor holds the Doctor of Music Education degree as well as the Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Cincinnati, Ohio, and he previously received the Bachelor of Music Education degree (High Honors) from the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. Furthermore, Dr. Poor is a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Early Adolescence to Young Adulthood-Music/Band as recognized by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. Likewise, he has been recognized in six editions of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers as well as the 2002 and 2003 Who’s Who in America.  He has been a music educator of over 25 years at all levels, and is currently the band director at South Forsyth Middle School.

In addition to great instruction the students will be fed lunch, and have some fun time to hang with their friends between rehearsals.  They will also put on a concert at the end of the camp to show how much they accomplished in one day.

Please double check your calendar’s and make sure your child can attend both the morning and afternoon session that day.  We only have one chance to have this awesome opportunity to have so many great educators in one place.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
We will need around 6 – 8 parents to help serve lunch, and I would also like to put a list of people who would be willing to help pick students up and take them home just in case we have some students who need a ride.  Please email me if you can do any or all of these things.

Thanks all

Happy New Year

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break and are ready to come back to school rested and focused.

Students please take the time to practice a little bit to get you instrument working properly.

Here are some practice ideas:

  • Play some of your normal warmups
  • If you have a smartphone download a metronome and tuner. Their are several free apps.
  • Work on one scale that gives you trouble.
  • Listen to some YouTube recordings of the festival music we passed out in class.
  • Practice some of the festival selections that were handed out in class.

Parents please take the time to check our calendar on the website and add our after school rehearsals to your calendar.

Please remember if you missed your last carowinds payment to try and get it in soon.

Thanks all
