Marching Band/Band Commitments

Good evening,

I want to make sure that all upcoming 9th graders are up to date on their fees and paperwork for high school band.

High School Fees and Dues        <———————————

It is also imperative that you read through the handbook and turn in the forms that are due.

Page eleven of the handbook has links to all of the forms that are due. You may click on them and fill them out.

There is also a schedule for the year and a breakdown of the costs. We have the lowest band fees of the surrounding counties!

When you get the chance please subscribe to the CHS website at http://www.chstrojanband.com to stay up to date on information.

And finally, make sure that your student has logged into Charms (Link here)

Checklist:

  • Read handbook
  • Pay fees and fill out forms
  • Subscribe to CHS band website
  • Log into Charms

Thank you so much and have a great rest of your night!

Sincerely,

M. Menendez

Concert Week and Rookie Marching Orientation

Good evening,

I hope that you have stayed cool in this heat! We are entering our last week of school for the year and have a few more things left to finish up.

This Tuesday is our final band concert for the year! It will be a night full of challenging music that is entertaining. Our jazz band will also perform which will be a treat for those of you who have not heard them yet.

Report time for Tuesday is 6:30 and attire is all black. Dress pants (no jeans please), black socks, black belt if possible and the black band polo. Concert begins at 7:00PM.

It is expected that your student stays for the entire concert. We have students each time that leave once the 7th grade band has completed their performance. I cannot stress enough how important it is for the 7th grade to watch the 8th grade performance and for the 8th graders to watch the 7th grade performance. It is a powerful teaching moment for the students. Our concerts are kept as short as possible in order to respect your time. The students have worked extremely hard and deserve to have a full house to hear the final product.

Please read below about our Rookie Orientation from Mr. Carr

Good morning!

I hope that this e-mail finds you well.  We have added two dates to the calendar in an effort to make the transition into marching band easier for our rising 9th grade students.  A few students had expressed an interest in more preparation before the 4th of July parade.  At these clinics we will hand out the 4th of July music and teach basic marching fundamentals.  I am sorry that the notice was not ideal, if you have conflicts please just let me know.  I know that it is a busy time of year.  These are only in an effort to help our rising 9th graders feel more comfortable.
We will meet on Monday, May 14, 2018 from 4:00PM – 6:00PM and Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 4:00 – 6:00PM at the high school band room. Students will need to wear tennis shoes with socks to the rehearsals and athletic clothing (PE Clothes).
Another benefit from attending the rehearsal is that your child will get to know their section leaders better.  The student leadership has expressed an interest in hosting fellowship gatherings with their sections during the summer.  These two rehearsals will provide them with a chance to exchange contact information with one another and be in contact throughout the summer.  We are so excited about next year!
I hope that you have a great day!
Mr. Carr

I cannot wait to see a preview of next year’s marching band on Monday and Thursday and to rock the house on Tuesday! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Sincerely,
M. Menendez

Thank you very much to the volunteers who helped with the surprise. The kids were ecstatic and we had a blast hanging out with each other as we handed out awards.

Our concert on May 15th at 7:00 PM will sound incredible. Make sure that we pack the house to celebrate an incredible year!

Sincerely,

M. Menendez

Rehearsal this week/Carowinds Recap

Good evening,

We had an incredible time this weekend with the 8th grade band in Charlotte, North Carolina. The students were very well behaved, polite and the chaperones did absolutely every thing that they could to ensure that all students were safe and had fun.

Our 8th grade band performed at the Carowinds Festival of Music on Saturday and received incredible scores from the judges. We received a Superior rating along with all A’s in every single category! I felt such a sense of pride in our program throughout the whole weekend and I look forward to making music for a couple more weeks with these students. This was a memorable trip for sure!

If you have any photos/videos from Carowinds please send them to maria.menendez@carrolltoncityschools.net
