High School Trip Meeting Tonight and reminders for tomorrow

Good evening,

I apologize for the multiple posts, but I would rather over communicate than under communicate with all that we have going on.

Tonight: (8th grade only) Washington D.C./Philadelphia meeting at 7:00 PM in high school band room. If you are unable to make it tonight I will have the information to hand out in class tomorrow.

Tomorrow:

  • Club pictures: All band members will need to bring just their band polo for the club picture during the day tomorrow. Students will put on the band polo for the photo only and may remove it after the photo.
  • Braves Game forms and money due. You may email your form or send it in tomorrow. A PDF of the form is here —–> . Braves Trip 2020

Please email me with any questions or concerns at maria.menendez@carrolltoncityschools.net

Jazz Band Black History Month Performance (Thursday)

Good evening,

Our jazz band students are excited to perform at tomorrow’s Black History Month Assembly. Students need to check in with their homeroom teacher before reporting to the band room at 8 AM. The bus will transport the students to the Mabry Arts Center at 8:15 AM.  Students have been asked to wear semi formal attire.

Family members may attend the performance tomorrow morning and are asked to sit in the side in order to save room for our students and staff.

The performance begins at 9:15 and will conclude around 10:15.

Have a wonderful night!

Sincerely,

Ms. Menendez

CJHS students are dismissed after the 8th grade performance concludes. I highly recommend staying though to hear as many high school performances as possible!

Trip Meeting – February 27

If your student would like to go on the upcoming band trip to Philadelphia and Washington DC during the Spring of 2021, we will have an information meeting on February 27 in the Band Room at 7PM. This is for rising 9th graders who will be in the high school band program next year. It is an informational meeting.

Jazz Band Guest Artist:

On Friday, Brandyn Taylor, a professional saxophone player and Vandoren artist, will work with our reed players in our woodwind classes including demonstrations, free samples, and more! He will then stay after school and work with our Jazz Band students until 4:30 to teach improvisation and jazz style. Brandyn’s bio can be found here. Students who are not in jazz band may stay after to hear Brandyn’s amazing playing and teaching.

Symphonic Camp:

Our annual Symphonic Camp is this Saturday! I am so excited for the kids to learn from professionals on their instrument and for them to meet and learn from Mr. Matthew Price. His biography can be viewed here: http://www.flatrockband.org/staff.html

Schedule:

If you are willing to donate a dessert for Symphonic Camp let me know! We will have Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwiches, chips, sodas, and homemade desserts.

We are paying our staff money to come to Carrollton and work with your kids on Saturday. Please ensure that your student is present so that they can learn many great things that day!

Shoutouts:

Thank you to Terry Lowry and the Carroll Symphonic Orchestra Guild for donating a brand new audio recorder! This will allow for us to professionally record all of our concerts and will be a great teaching tool during class. This recorder has the capability to play back clips instantly. We will record segments of our rehearsal and listen back minutes later which will allow the students to hear what the full ensemble sounds like. They can hear what the audience hears and can make decisions on how to improve or alter what they are doing in order to produce a better product.

Congratulations to the CJHS Science Bowl team on winning 1st place at the Regional Science Bowl competition! They will compete at the State Science Bowl competition in Savannah, Georgia on March 7th.

Four of the five students pictured are band members, and active ones at that! I am so proud of Sarah Scholl, Eden Long, Hagan Russell, and Ian Larson for pushing themselves in many aspects of their lives. They are active in our school in many ways and exemplify great work ethic.

IMG-9553

I am so proud of our band students in our band program. The above example is just a fraction of what our students are doing other than band. They are athletes, school leaders, advocates, mentors, and incredible people.

If you have a student who is participating in a sport or another activity, please let me know. I would love to come and support them!

Please let me know if you have any questions about anything that is coming up.

Sincerely,

Ms. Menendez
