Chair Test Results

Good evening,

This has been one of the most successful chair tests that I have administered at CJHS. Students are performing their etudes with such maturity and are playing more scales than ever. I am SO proud of their hard work and cannot wait to hear them again in the Spring when we have our next chair placement test. You will notice that some students have “*Have not tested” beside their name. Once they return and perform their test or send in a recording, I will adjust the results as needed. At Home Learners are also welcome to submit a chair test and may still do so until the end of Thanksgiving break.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you see an error on the results. The spreadsheets are large and my small brain does make mistakes sometimes.

Spirit Jacket Order:

There is still more time to purchase a band jacket. All orders will be made through the following link: https://ozierapparel.com/carrolltonjrband/shop/home

I highly recommend paying the extra $5 to add the name and instrument to the jacket.

The jacket order will conclude on on November 22nd so that we can get the jackets in time for the holiday break.

Congratulations to you all and have a fantastic break!

Sincerely,

M. Menendez

Last week before break!

Good evening,

I cannot believe that we are a week away from Thanksgiving break. I am excited for another week with the students and then for some much needed time off. They have worked incredibly hard through this difficult semester in all of their courses.

Week at a glance:

Tuesday: DHB after school practice for those auditioning until 4:15

Wednesday: Jazz Band practice until 4:15

Thursday: Chair test during class

Chair Test on Thursday:

Our students have been working hard in class on their chair test etudes and scales. I look forward to hearing them in class on Thursday. Please encourage them to take their instruments home this week and put in some time on their music. We want for them to feel great about what they do on Thursday.

Have a wonderful rest of your night.

Sincerely,

Ms. Menendez

Chair Test:

Our students received their chair test information last week. You should hear a lot of practicing in the next two weeks in preparation for our first test of the year. Our chair test will occur in class on Thursday, November 19th. At home learners may submit a video submission if they would like to be included in the results. They will sit in their chair upon return to in-person learning. If they would rather wait then they will be tested after their return to school when they are ready.

Jazz Band:

Jazz band is a non-auditioned group at the Junior High. All instruments are welcome and there is no fee required to participate. Our Jazz Band rehearses until 4:15 every Wednesday. This is an exciting group and I hope to have a lot of students participating this year!

Cookie Dough Delivery/DHB

Good morning,

Cookie Dough:

Our cookie dough is set to be delivered on Wednesday. Students will report to the band room at the end of the day (there will be an announcement made) and will collect their boxes to bring home. If your student sold more than 10 boxes then I recommend arranging for them to be a car rider on Wednesday. If they absolutely cannot and are a walker or bus rider then they will need a buddy to help them carry their boxes.

Thank you again for your participation in our first fundraiser of the year!

District Honor Band:

Our students have been working on their District Honor Band etudes in class. This is a great opportunity for students to compete to be in an honor band that is comprised of the highest level band students in our district. I have posted a few paragraphs below from the sign-up form that they will receive in class tomorrow as well as a PDF version of the form.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Each school in Georgia is zoned to a specific district.  District Honor Band participation and All-State Band Participation is looked at very highly by colleges and employers because of the extra time and the personal responsibility it takes to successfully audition and make one of these prestigious bands. With the current pandemic, the district is still finalizing the details for the district honor band event. Tentatively, it is still scheduled for February 11th-13th.

Students wishing to audition for the District Honor Band must pay a fee of $5 to participate.  This is recommended for 7th graders or first time auditioners.

Students wishing to participate on a higher level can pay an additional $25 ($30 total) in order to be considered for the All-State audition, if their District audition score is high enough.  This is recommended for 8th grade students who either auditioned or made the District Band last year.

Timeline and Calendar:

November 13th – All forms and Fees are due. $5 for DHB or $30 for DHB and All-State Fees.

December 3rd and December 4th –  Mock audition for Ms. Menendez in class or after school. I will notify the students if I feel that the student is not ready this year to submit an audition to the district.

January 1st – video submission due to Ms. Menendez

February 11th- 14th: District Honor Band event.
