Month: March 2021

It’s chair test week! AYP Card Info

Good evening,

Our schedule for the week:

Wednesday: Jazz band after school until 4:15

Thursday: Chair test in class

Chair test:

I am excited to hear our students this week as they perform for their next chair test on Thursday during class. I have been working with some individually and have been impressed with their work so far. Please encourage them to either practice at home or to come in the mornings when they get to school between 7:30-8:10 to practice.

AYP Cards

Our Ayp card sale usually occurs during this time of the year. I worked with the fundraising company to see if companies will honor last year’s card since we will not issue new ones this year. Below is a list from Heritage Farms listing all of the companies that have agreed to honor last year’s cards.

Each AYP card is $15 and supports the band program. Please send your student with $15 per card that they want and they will receive them in class to bring home that day. For every 6 that you purchase, you earn one free!

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Ms. Menendez

Week at a glance

This week:

Wednesday: Jazz band until 4:15

Good evening,

This week was full of truly incredible moments. Our students overcame so much and culminated this concert cycle with a stellar performance at the Carroll County Performing Arts Center. I am beyond thankful to our band staff, volunteers, and our students for all that they did leading up to this week and the days of the performance. It truly takes a village!

Our students are hard working, professional, resilient, and so much more. Both groups earned a Superior rating on stage. The ratings are listed below to give you an idea of what each rating means:

The following ratings are awarded by each of three adjudicators in GMEA performance evaluations (selected text from the Adjudicator’s Guide to LGPE):

Superior (1): Outstanding performance. Worthy of distinction of being recognized as among the very best.

Excellent (2): Unusually good performance in many respects, but not worthy of the highest rating due to minor defects. A performance of distinctive quality.

Good (3): A good performance, but not one that is outstanding. Shows accomplishment and marked promise, but lacks one or more essential qualities.

Fair (4): A performance that shows some obvious weaknesses, generally weak and uncertain.

Poor (5): A performance which reveals much room for improvement. The students reveal almost a complete lack of preparedness and understanding.

I have such a sense of pride in our program and all that we represented this week. Thank you so much to all for attending the after school rehearsals and working each and every day towards this performance. I hope that it is as memorable to you all as it was to me.

Looking ahead:

Our next chair test will be Thursday, April 1st. This will assign our chair placement for our Spring concert.

Our Spring concert is May 25th at 7PM at the Mabry Arts Center.

Each group will have one rehearsal for this concert. The dates will be announced as soon as I can make sure that there are no conflicts with field trips. Thank you for your patience.

Have a great rest of your night.

Sincerely,

Ms. Menendez

New LGPE Performance Time

We have thankfully been squeezed into the schedule tomorrow for LGPE. I am so excited that our 7th graders will get the chance to perform and am thankful that Mr. Ruby from Central High School has found a way to make it happen! We hope that some of you will still be able to attend to support the students. It looks like Mother Nature was not a fan of us performing tonight as intended.

Our itinerary is posted below for tomorrow:

12:00 Released from classes

12:10 lunch provided (pizza)

12:50 Depart

1:00 arrive at Performing Arts Center

1:20 warm up

2:20 Performance

3:00 Return to CJHS

Students will have an excused absence from school and will return before the school day is over.

For those of you attending we ask that you sit in the ORANGE rows (different from today) and that you wear a mask while in attendance. I am beyond thankful to everyone for their flexibility during this insane situation.

Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions@ maria.menendez@carrolltoncityschools.net

Sincerely,

LGPE Concert Cancelled

Good afternoon,

As I am sure that you have heard, our school system has cancelled our after school activities for this evening. This includes our LGPE performance unfortunately. The weather coming from Alabama is predicted to be severe.

At this moment we are working to see if we can squeeze in our 7th grade band tomorrow during the school day. Obviously this may not be at a time that all of you all can watch your student perform, but allowing our students to perform this concert that they have worked so hard for would be incredible.

IF the Performing Arts Center allows us to perform tomorrow to make up our missed concert tonight, then I will notify you all of the time as soon as possible. The other groups performing tomorrow may be on a delayed start due to the weather as well so it may be difficult to squeeze us in. Thank you for your flexibility and know that we will cross that bridge if and when we get there.

The students have been incredible this year and have grown so much. I am extremely proud of this 7th grade group and hope that if we cannot perform tomorrow, that we have the largest audience ever at their Spring Concert later this year! They deserve it!

Stay safe tonight.

Sincerely,

M. Menendez

LGPE Concert Information

Good morning,

Our students knocked it out of the park on Tuesday at Pre-LGPE. Thank you so much for your hard work as students and family members. I am impressed with our progress this year and how professionally our groups looked and sounded on Tuesday!

The Large Group Performance Evaluation schedule has been given to the directors as of yesterday. Unfortunately, due to a conflict with a field trip we were unable to get both groups on the same day.

7th grade will perform on Wednesday, March 17th at 4:00 PM.

8th grade will perform on Tuesday, March 16th at 4:40 PM.

Both ensembles will perform at the Carroll County Performing Arts Center and audiences will be allowed for all groups. Audience members must wear masks when in the facility but no tickets will be needed.

Students will be bussed to and from LGPE. I will release that schedule as soon as I can.

Thank you for your flexibility and patience during this crazy year! More info to come!

If your student has earned a spot in the District Honor Band please read the info posted below. I have purchased playing masks for our students so that is not something that they need to purchase.

Pre LGPE Concert Tuesday and more

Good evening,

Here is our schedule for the week:

Wednesday: Jazz band until 4:15

Thursday: 7th grade after school rehearsal at CHS Band room until 5:00 pm.

March 2nd Pre LGPE Concert info:

With the support of our administrators we have worked out the following logistics for our Pre-LGPE Concert this Tuesday evening. We are so thankful that we will have the opportunity for a limited audience within the MAC and also be able to offer a live stream so that everyone can have the opportunity to support our students and celebrate their hard work.

LGPE or Large Group Performance Evaluation is an opportunity for our students to perform for certified adjudicators and receive beneficial feedback on our progress and a rating against an established performance standard. This concert allows us to receive similar feedback in preparation of the evaluative performance provided by trusted colleagues. We are excited to welcome Derek Able, recently retired band director from Bremen HS; Scott King, band director at Starr’s Mill HS; and Michael Kobito, band director at Woodland HS to Carrollton and look forward to the insightful feedback that they will provide.

For a printable PDF of the following information you can download below.

Pre-Festival-Concert-Logistics-Flyer-2021Download

  • Masks are required for all attendees (audience and performers) while inside the MAC.
  • Performers should report backstage 25 minutes before performance time using the PERFORMER ENTRANCE at the rear of the MAC.
  • Audience members will enter the building at the front of the MAC closest to Ben Scott Blvd.
  • After each performance, audience members will exit the MAC directly from the auditorium or through the right side of the lobby.  You may meet your performers either at the home gates or in the amphitheater.
  • The auditorium will open 10 minutes before the start of each performance for audience members to find their seats.
  • Tickets are required for entrance – each performer will be given 2 tickets to invite audience members.
  • Performers will exit the building at the rear of the MAC behind the home stands of the stadium and will walk around the MAC to meet up with parents.
  • Thank you for maintaining proper social distancing practices (6 feet between you and someone not within your family).
  • Seating will be divided into socially distanced pairs within the auditorium.  Thank you for choosing a pair of seats quickly and not sitting in the restricted seats.
  • Once you have reunited with your performer please do not remain on campus.  We ask that you depart campus right away.
  • Live stream available: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-Sdt-6NLhbHbaOhKONVeYg/live

Concert Times

The times have been spread out more than usual to allow each audience to exit before the next audience enters for the next performance. If you have multiple children performing, thank you in advance for exiting when appropriate and re-entering with another ticket for each performance. The doors will open 10 minutes before the next performance. Please do not arrive too early as the social distancing location to wait on the doors to open will be outside on the concrete patio closest to Ben Scott Blvd.

  • 5:00PM Carrollton Junior High School 7th Grade Band
    • Report time: 4:30 or stay after school
  • 5:45PM Carrollton Junior High School 8th Grade Band
    • Report time: 5:15 or stay after school

Students should arrive to the MAC in full concert attire 30 minutes before their scheduled performance times.

We look forward to showcasing our students’ hard work this Tuesday. Thank you for your assistance in helping us keep our students and community safe by following these guidelines. Also please share the live stream link with family and friends who otherwise would not be able to attend: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-Sdt-6NLhbHbaOhKONVeYg/live

Have a great rest of your evening.
