Month: February 2021

Schedule for the week and Concert Info

Good evening,

Here is our schedule for the week:

Wednesday: Jazz band until 4:15

Thursday: 8th grade after school rehearsal at CHS Band room until 5:00 pm.

March 2nd Pre LGPE Concert info:

With the support of our administrators we have worked out the following logistics for our Pre-LGPE Concert next Tuesday evening. We are so thankful that we will have the opportunity for a limited audience within the MAC and also be able to offer a live stream so that everyone can have the opportunity to support our students and celebrate their hard work.

LGPE or Large Group Performance Evaluation is an opportunity for our students to perform for certified adjudicators and receive beneficial feedback on our progress and a rating against an established performance standard. This concert allows us to receive similar feedback in preparation of the evaluative performance provided by trusted colleagues. We are excited to welcome Derek Able, recently retired band director from Bremen HS; Scott King, band director at Starr’s Mill HS; and Michael Kobito, band director at Woodland HS to Carrollton and look forward to the insightful feedback that they will provide.

  • Masks are required for all attendees (audience and performers) while inside the MAC.
  • Performers should report backstage 25 minutes before performance time using the PERFORMER ENTRANCE at the rear of the MAC.
  • Audience members will enter the building at the front of the MAC closest to Ben Scott Blvd.
  • After each performance, audience members will exit the MAC directly from the auditorium or through the right side of the lobby.  You may meet your performers either at the home gates or in the amphitheater.
  • The auditorium will open 10 minutes before the start of each performance for audience members to find their seats.
  • Tickets are required for entrance – each performer will be given 2 tickets to invite audience members.
  • Performers will exit the building at the rear of the MAC behind the home stands of the stadium and will walk around the MAC to meet up with parents.
  • Thank you for maintaining proper social distancing practices (6 feet between you and someone not within your family).
  • Seating will be divided into socially distanced pairs within the auditorium.  Thank you for choosing a pair of seats quickly and not sitting in the restricted seats.
  • Once you have reunited with your performer please do not remain on campus.  We ask that you depart campus right away.
  • Live stream available: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-Sdt-6NLhbHbaOhKONVeYg/live

Concert Times

The times have been spread out more than usual to allow each audience to exit before the next audience enters for the next performance. If you have multiple children performing, thank you in advance for exiting when appropriate and re-entering with another ticket for each performance. The doors will open 10 minutes before the next performance. Please do not arrive too early as the social distancing location to wait on the doors to open will be outside on the concrete patio closest to Ben Scott Blvd.

    • Report time: 4:30 or stay after school
  • 5:45PM Carrollton Junior High School 8th Grade Band

7th Grade Rehearsal Tomorrow 2/18

Good evening,

I hope that everyone had a restful and enjoyable February break! We have a short week ahead of us.

Tomorrow, Thursday the 18th, is our first of two 7th grade after school rehearsals. 7th graders will walk after school with Ms. Menendez to the high school band room for rehearsal. Please ensure that their ride is there at 5 PM at the CHS band room.

As a reminder, we will not participate in the AYP Card fundraiser this year. Please help spread the word to the community. We hope to receive an alternative from the fundraising company. I will update you all once I know more information.

Enjoy the rest of your evening and I look forward to making music tomorrow with our incredible band members!

Sincerely,

M. Menendez

8th Grade Rehearsal Reminder/AYP Announcement

Good evening,

We have finally reached the week where some of our students get to rehearse as a full group for the first time this year! This Thursday the 8th grade band will walk over to the high school band room to rehearse for our Large Group Performance Evaluation. Our bands are rehearsing at the high school band room this year since it is much larger and allows for students to be safely distanced. Please ensure that their ride is at the high school band room at 5:00 PM on Thursday. I am so excited to finally hear the full band together this week, and 7th grade next week!

Below is a reminder of our schedule for this concert cycle:

A few more reminders and announcements:

  • Make sure that your student has their black dress pants, black shoes, and their black CJHS Band polo.
    • Polos may be purchased for $21 from Ms. Menendez
    • You may also turn in your old polo for a new one free of charge
  • Jazz band will continue their weekly rehearsals on Wednesday until 4:15. We will perform virtually at the Black History Month Assembly at the end of the month. More information to come.
  • AYP Fundraiser has been cancelled for this school year. Due to Covid-19 and the uncertainties of schools and businesses, there was not enough time or security to produce the cards. An alternative is being looked into. I am also looking to see if the businesses will honor last year’s card. Thank you for your patience and I apologize for the inconvenience.

We are continuing to grow immensely this year. I am proud of the students and their resilience during these trying times. Thank you for supporting them and for encouraging that they participate in our band program. We are excited for you to hear us soon!

Sincerely,

M. Menendez
