Concert Week and last week of school

Good evening,

I cannot believe that we are in our last week of school! What an incredible year! We had an absolute BLAST this past Friday at Golden Corral and Thunderzone. The staff at both locations bragged on our students. They said that they were polite and patient. I could not be more proud. I hope that the students had as much fun as I did! Thank you to everyone who helped out. On Tuesday we will have our last concert of the year and we are excited to show you all what we have been working on.

Band Rehearsals:

I have decided to have our Spring Concert Rehearsals during the school day rather than after school due to some after school conflicts. All teachers are aware and will not mark your student absent or penalize them for missing class.

Our 7th grade students will rehearse during 1st and 2nd block tomorrow morning. 2nd block students must check in with their homeroom teacher before coming to the band room.

8th grade will rehearse during 5th and 6th block on Tuesday.

I am excited to hear both groups as we prepare for our Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 25th.

New Marching Band Uniforms and Weekly Announcements

New Uniform Reveal

At the annual Trojan Band BBQ, we revealed our new uniforms to the public for the first time. The purchase of the uniforms was made possible through a partnership between school administration, board of education, and booster club.

The uniform features many adaptable components to allow modernization of the Trojan Band look that will aide in our competitive pursuits while allowing us to make choices for a traditional look during appropriate performances. The shako (hat) has a modern wrap that continues the look consistently up to the plume, which can be removed to expose a traditional black shako with an embroidered Trojan Emblem.

When designing the uniforms the directors looked at the past uniforms because they wanted to bring back some of the traditional elements. These were some of the prominent features noticed when taking a look back.

The new uniform brings back the traditional white coats and retains the Greek ā€œCā€ that was featured in the uniforms of the early 2000’s. The 3 stripes in the circa 2010’s uniform representing the past, current, and future are featured on the right side of the uniform. A modern drop continues the color down the right leg to highlight movement and add to the overall contrast for the performers on the field. The dual colored sleeves of the uniform allows for 4 distinct looks while on the field depending on if the band is facing North, South, East, or West. This fresh modernized competitive uniform for our Trojan Band allows us to be prepared for current competitions while honoring our tradition and legacy. We are very excited to debut these uniforms next fall!!

District Honor Band and Updates

Good evening,

Schedule for the week:

Wednesday: No Jazz Band

Thursday: Band BBQ all day at CHS

District Honor Band

We had an incredible time at District Honor Band this weekend! Our students enjoyed traveling, meeting new friends, playing music with an advanced ensemble, learning from guest conductors and more! I am so proud of all of our students who participated and hope that they are prepared to bring back knowledge and new skills to their peers here at CJHS. They represented us well and are fantastic leaders!

Thunderzone Field Trip

This Friday, May 7th is the final day to turn in permission slips and money to attend the Thunderzone field trip. You may pay with cash or check (written out to CJHS Band). I have attached a copy of the permission slip below.

Band BBQ

The annual band BBQ is this Thursday! The CHS band will sell delicious bbq meals all day under the away bleachers of the high school stadium. Feel free to buy some for you and your family for dinner to help support the high school program. The high school will put on performances beginning at 6:00 PM including a special performance by the high school marching band! I hope to see some of you there!

I hope that you enjoy the rest of your Sunday night and good luck to our students this week as they take their Milestone assessments!

Sincerely,

Ms. Menendez
