Month: January 2018

8th grade rehearsal

Good evening,

Just a quick reminder about our first after school rehearsal tomorrow for 8th grade. Rehearsal is from 3:30-5:00.

Basketball cheerleaders will leave at 4:00 so that they can change and get on their bus for the championship game.

Tennis girls will leave at 4:00 and tennis boys will leave at 4:45

Track girls and boys will leave at 4:15.

Those are the conflicts that I know of. Thank you for working with us to divide between the two activities.

7th grade rehearsals begin on Tuesday.

Tomorrow is going to be a lot of fun! Let me know of any other conflicts please.

After School Rehearsals

Good morning,

https://chstrojanband.revtrak.net/trojan-band-trip/#/v/hollywood-trip-deposit

Hollywood Trip Deposits may be paid still through Revtrak

8th grade after school rehearsals begin this Thursday. After school until 5:00. Remember that rehearsals are for a grade and that if your student is in another activity that they would need to split their time between the two.

7th Grade begins their weekly after school rehearsals on Tuesday the 6th.

Many of our tennis players are carpooling from rehearsal to Tennis practices when they conflict and I am okay with that! I love that parents and students are working together to make sure that students are not letting down either team. Juggling between the two is difficult at times, but worth it in the end.

Carowinds Deposit is due the 31st of January! The total amount paid for the trip at this point should be $150 because of a payment in November, December and the one on Wednesday the 31st. https://carrolltonjuniorhs.revtrak.net/CJHS-Band/#/list

On Thursday the 8th at 7Pm Georgia State University’s Wind Ensemble will perform at our very own Mabry Arts Center. This is an incredible college ensemble performing for free right on our campus! I encourage as many students as possible to make it to the concert. Each student that attends will receive extra credit.

Updated Rehearsal Schedule. Must Read

The statement below will be sent home in a physical format on Friday.

Dear CJHS Band Family,

With much thought towards the success of our band leading up towards Large Group Performance Evaluation I have decided to modify our rehearsal schedule.

We are still in the early stages of learning notes and rhythms for our music therefore I feel that a full ensemble rehearsal would not be a good use of our time. There are also students who have tryouts for other sports and activities that I want to honor if possible.

I have decided to cancel all L.G.P.E. after school rehearsals for the month of January. This should give us enough time to dig into our music during class so that when we will have more successful rehearsals at the beginning of February.

With these cancellations I am asking for four rehearsals from the 7th grade band and five from our 8th grade band. These rehearsals are a requirement and are for a grade (as they always are). Hopefully with some extra days off your students will be able to knock out some things so that they can give a full commitment to their peers and our band program.

Please remember that students with another rehearsal or practice are asked to split their time. Students with a game or competition that conflicts with a band rehearsal will attend their game or competition as long as it is a Carrollton activity. Thank you for understanding.

I will give a copy of this to students tomorrow so that you can hang it on your fridge. Our calendar online has also been updated to reflect these changes.

One special note: Jazz Band rehearsals are as normal, every Wednesday. The above corrections are only for L.G.P. E. rehearsals.

Hopefully this opens up some time for all of us and I am positive that it is a great decision for our band program. These are talented and hardworking kids. We will have a great performance at our L.G.P.E. concert in March and people will continue to be in awe of your students and their talents.

I see the hard work and the commitment that they are giving at such a young age and know that I appreciate it and I appreciate you for supporting them in this commitment.

Please contact me with any questions or conflicts directly at maria.menendez@carrolltoncityschools.net

Sincerely,

Hollywood Trip Meeting Reminder (8th Grade)

Tonight at 6PM in the high school band room will be our Hollywood trip informational meeting. This meeting is strongly encouraged for anyone who plans on attending the trip next year. The meeting will provide more details of the cost breakdown, payment plan and dates for travel. If you are unable to make the trip please consider sending someone else from your family to attend.

If you are absolutely unable to attend the meeting then we will have link with a recording of it on YouTube the following day for you to watch.

If you are unsure about high school band and/or this trip we recommend coming in person on Tuesday so that the staff, band boosters and trip organizer can answer as many questions as possible.

I look forward to seeing you all tonight! I am extremely excited to hear about all the details.
