Announcements

Please check below for important announcements:

District Honor Band:

The bus departs at 10:45 from the JH school Saturday morning. Please make sure that your student has all of their music and their instrument with them. Students may not wear jeans and need to dress at least business casual for this audition.

Students will need about $10 for lunch at the pizza buffet on the way home if they plan on riding the bus back.

I am hoping that the students will be home earlier than 5PM. The students will be in contact with you when they are leaving the pizza buffet so that you can have an accurate time to pick them up from the JH school.

The actual Carrollton audition time is at 1:15 but since I am set to work in the warm up area that Saturday I will try to push our kids through a little earlier so that they can go home sooner! Students riding separately need to arrive around 12:15 for a quick warm up and then get in line around 12:30.

Address: (different address than last year)

Excel Christian Academy

54 7th Street

Emerson, GA 30137

Chaperones needed

Good morning!

I am emailing you from sunny  Los Angeles, California! Last night the high school band performed in the Hollywood Christmas Parade and it was an absolute blast. I cannot wait for our kids to be up in the high school band experiencing these incredible moments.

I am in need of chaperones for two events.

The first is this Saturday for District Honor Band. The bus will take the students to Excel Christian Academy and will stop for pizza on the way home. Because I am at the auditions all day I cannot ride the bus to and from. I am in search of a parent to monitor the kids to and from the auditions. If we do not have a chaperone for Saturday then unfortunately all students will have to work out their ride to and from the auditions on their own.

Our Carowinds trip will not function without an appropriate amount of chaperones. If you are an 8th grade parent please consider being a chaperone. The price is discounted for parents and is $150. At this point we have one chaperone signed up for the trip. That would be a 90-1 student- parent ratio!

I always appreciate your help! If you are able to chaperone for either of these events please contact me at:

maria.menendez@carrolltoncityschools.net

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Ms. Menendez

Jacket Order/Carowinds

Good afternoon,

Carowinds Deposit Due this Friday: *8th Grade only*

You may pay in cash, check (written out to CJHS Band) or on Revtrak online.

I would really like for all students to attend this trip. It is an incredible trip and they deserve to celebrate three years of band!

Please notify me of any financial restrictions. I would rather know now and get to work on some sponsorships for kids then be told at the last second and have a student not attend a trip. I promise that if your student wants to go that they will go.

We are in need of chaperones for the trip. Please look at in information below and make sure that your deposit is turned in this Friday as well.

A reminder about our jacket order:

Ozier Apparel Band Jackets

The order will end on November 18th and they will be delivered to the JH on December 14th.

*8th grade students may want to consider buying the jacket that says “8th grade only” if they are considering high school band. All high school band members are required to have that jacket their freshman year. Purchasing it now would take off some of those beginning fees next year.*

Have a great week!

Fall Concert Tomorrow

FALL CONCERT:
Tomorrow the 6th we will have our Fall Concert at 7PM at the Mabry Arts Center!
Students must report at 6:30 and are required to stay the entire time. Because we only have two grade levels the concert should be over before 8 o’ clock. Please be aware that students who leave early do not receive full credit and will be deducted points from that portion of their grade.
As stated in our handbook:
Rehearsal for concert = 30 points
Attendance at concert= 70 points
Total= 100 point test grade
  • Students should wear black dress pants or black khakis (no jeans or leggings) and their black performance band polo.
  • Shoes must be black and may not be sandals or tennis shoes. If shoes require socks I ask that they are black as well since any other color would clash with the all black uniform.
  • Black belts are not required but highly encouraged to make the tucked in shirt look even more professional.

Friday will be our Veteran’s day performance during the school day. I will take care fo the students all day and will feed them lunch. They will leave school at the normal time. More information to come soon Wednesday morning.

Some exciting announcements are coming up! Stay tuned and I will see you all tomorrow evening.

Sincerely,

M. Menendez

Rehearsals this week and other announcements

Good evening,

I want to start off by saying “thank you” to all of the students and parents who helped at the Trojan Band game on Thursday. Every person was very flexible with the rain and with the constant change in plans due to that weather. The volunteers have been spot on and are part of what make the games so well run. It has been a great season and I hope that everyone involved had as much fun as I did.

Rehearsals this week:

7th Grade Monday the 29th from 3:30-5:00

8th Grade Tuesday the 30th from 3:30-5:00

Please remember that these rehearsals are a grade for the students. We are unable to replicate combining both classes in any other way and therefore only get one practice before the concert.

Students who are in another Carrollton activity will split their time between band and their activity. Students will leave the band rehearsal at 4:00PM to attend cheerleading, wrestling, or whatever other activity they are a part of as long as they have notified me ahead of time. This will allow them to get full credit for the rehearsal. Thank you for your flexibility!

High School Chili Cookoff:

The 7th grade percussionists have been invited to perform at the Chili Cookoff on Tuesday! This is a high school band event. Please be there at 6:00 to eat some delicious chili and to prepare to perform. We encourage all perccussion parents to attend and to bring a crockpot full of chili too!

If you are not a percussionist you may also attend! Dinner starts at 6 and there will be plenty of music by percussion ensembles and other chamber groups. Dinner is free 🙂

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

-M. Menendez
