8th grade chair testing

Starts today in class for all 8th grade students. Please come prepared. 

Trojan Band

We had an awesome rehearsal yesterday. The kids are ready for Thursday’s game. I will pass out shirts and hat as soon as they are delivered. I will need all parent committee members who checked Trojan band committee Thursday at 5pm. I will let you know where the game will be as soon as our administrators let me know. 

District Honor Band Help Session

This help session is today from 3:30-4:30 for those students who signed up. If you cannot make it to today’s session we will have more. Refer to your packet and sign up sheet for details. More packets can be obtained in the band room. I will also post the info today.

Keep selling. Hold on to all orders until Sept 15th. Parents please help with organizing and holding on to your child’s money until the turn in date. 

Trojan Band

Our first, and only, Trojan Band rehearsal is next week Tuesday after school from 3:30-5. We should have shirts and hats to distribute and all music to run through. I will not need the Trojan band parent committee at this rehearsal. I will need our Trojan band parent committee at next Thursday’s game. The game begins at 5:30pm, students should go home from school and get a ride back to school for the game. Report time is 5pm, the location of  he game has not yet been determined, I am hoping its in Grisham stadium. 

District Honor Band

Today in class we spoke about district honor band and the signup has been posted. I recommend all students tryout for district honor band. It is a significant challenge for all students and pushes them to new levels of musicianship that cannot be found by just attending band class. In short, the students prepare a short solo and scales and will travel to Cartersville on a bus in December to audition for a band made up of the scoring students from all of the schools in our district. If they make the band they get to go for a weekend in February to Ringold GA to perform with the honor band. It is an excellent opportunity for all 7th and 8th graders and is one I highly recommend. 

Chair Testing

7th graders should be finished up today. I heard a lot of great, well prepared students in my office this week. Bravo!!! 8th grade begins next Tuesday.

Hello all,

Tomorrow we will begin our first chair test for the 7th grade band students. They will be performing a prepared solo, scales and will sight read for a grade. Please make sure you hear your child practicing tonight as this will determine chair position for the fall concert.

Today we are kicking off our annual cookie dough fundraiser to raise money for the band.  We will use this money to purchase new music, repair instruments, buy supplies, and bring in extra instructors to help our band program grow and thrive.  Please encourage your 7^th grader to participate in this fundraiser.

Here are all the details:

Students Should:

• Use the brochure to sell cookie dough to willing customers in their neighborhood, work, or church group. Parents can even take the order taker to work and put it in the break room.
• Collect the money for each box of cookie dough, and store it in an envelope. Check can be made out to CJHS Band.
• Write all the names down on the order taker so that you can distribute it when it comes in.
• Money will be collected on September 15^th and the orders will be placed.
• Two to three weeks later we will get the cookie dough in to distribute. Roughly October 6^th.

Perks:

• For every 10 boxes sold you will receive a free box of cookie dough.
• We will also be awarding $50 to the top seller in each grade.
• 8th Graders will earn $3 per box of cookie dough sold toward the spring trip to Carowinds ($200)

Again this is a great way to help the band purchase new music, repair instruments, buy supplies, and bring in extra instructors to help our band program grow and thrive.  Please encourage your child to participate.

I hope you have been receiving my remind 101 messages. If not please get signed up. 

Next week Friday is the due date for all forms and fees for the year. Please get these in on time. If you need extra copies they can be printed from the forms tab on this website.  

Students will also be getting chair test and district honor band materials next week. We are one of the largest band programs in our district and it is my hope that I will have a large group of kids auditioning. More info will be available next week.

Please make sure to fill out and return your forms and fee’s before or by August 26th.  If you lost your forms they are available on this website under the forms section, please print and return them.

Trojan Band Schedule

Tuesday Sept 6th – Trojan Band After School Rehearsal 3:30 – 5pm.

Thursday Sept 8th – 5:30pm – 7pm

Thursday Sept 22nd – 5:30pm – 7pm

Thursday Oct 13th – 5:30pm – 7pm

Thursday Oct 20th- 5:30pm – 7pm

These games will most likely be at the HS Grisham Stadium, but may also be at CJHS practice field.  I will forward that info as we get closer to the games.

Hello all,

Thank you for subscribing to the website, please remember to also get signed up for Remind 101 text message alerts.  Yesterday was an awesome first day and I am so excited to start making music with each of my classes.  As the first semester gets rolling I’d like to send out a few friendly reminders to get us started off right.

Forms and Fees:

I handed out an abundance of forms, and a handbook at our open house and yesterday in class, they are due back by Friday Aug 26th along with any fees associated.  If you did not receive them they should be in the “Forms” tab on this website and you can print them off.

Online Payment:

The revtrak website for online payment is not up yet to do payments for band, but I will let you know as soon as it is.

Calendar:

I have not yet punched in our calendar into the website yet but I will once I get dates finalized, I am still waiting on some scheduling information regarding the Mabry Arts Center and a few other dates and events.  As soon as the calendar is set I will punch it all in.

Trojan Spirit Band:

I got the football schedule and I am putting together the Trojan Band and it doesn’t look like we have a game until September 8th, so that would mean we would have the first (and only) after school practice on Tuesday September 6th from 3:30 – 5pm.  I will add all of the dates to the calendar very soon.

Welcome back!!!  I hope to see all of you Aug 2nd at the annual CJHS open house.  Please feel free to stop in and say hello, grab a handbook, and see what is happening this year in band.

PLEASE COME TO SCHOOL ON THURSDAY WITH THESE IMPORTANT ITEMS:

1. 1 inch or 1/2 inch black binder with a clear view window in the front.  (cannot be to thick or else it will not fit in our slots.)
2. 50 Plastic pages for holding music
3. Mechanical pencils, either in their instrument case or in their binder.
4. Your instrument  (percussionists will just need sticks, please do not bring your percussion kit)
5. Instrument related items, reeds, valve oil, etc…

I am looking forward to seeing all of you.  We will be releasing more information soon about these new items:

I am so proud of all the bands tonight. Thank you all for your support of your child and our band program this year. So much goes into putting on a successful concert. I want to thank all the directors on our band team, Maria Menendez and her awesome 6th grade band, and our outstanding high school directors Chris Carr and Josh Robichaux for all their work behind the scenes. 

As the summer approaches I want to direct you to my previous post about summer camps. Any one of those camps would be a fantastic option for your child. 

I do expect all personal instruments to be brought home Wednesday and students playing school owned instruments will be able to check out one out to practice over the summer.
