Weekly Announcements

This week at a glance:

Monday: After school help for beginners or those who would like tutoring until 4:15

Tuesday: District Honor Band practice until 4:15

*NEW* Wednesday: Pass off day for students to pass off their lines.

Pass Off System

Beginning tomorrow students will have their pass off list for this nine weeks. I like to think of this as a project that students work to complete during each quarter of the school year . Students may pass off these lines at their own pace, as long as they have passed off all nine before the end of the 9 weeks.

Opportunities for students to pass off are :

  • Before school at 7:40 AM
  • During class on Wednesdays
  • After school on Wednesdays until 4:15 PM

Playing Test:

All students had a playing test this Friday. Please check on Infinite Campus for their grade and encourage them to raise their grade up. Students can re-take their test an unlimited amount of times until the end of the 9 weeks when grades are due. The goal for students is to perfect this concept, not for the grade to serve as any form of punishment. Anything less than a 100 is just a reminder that there is still some work to do. Thank you for your support.

District Honor Band and All State:

Please encourage your students to audition for District Honor Band. After our tests this Friday I heard how talented our band is! Lots of the practicing for this will be done in class so students will not need to commit much time after school to work up for this audition. Help me push your students to be a better version of themselves!

Legacy of Band Competition Volunteers

Good evening,

As we prepare for our next school year we are beginning to look for volunteers for our high school band competition. The Legacy of Band Competition is our annual marching competition that our band program hosts and is one of the top marching competitions in our state.

I know that I have had conversations with some of you who are excited for your student to come up to the high school band program either this year or next year. For those of you who are interested in becoming very involved with our band program, specifically our band competition, we would like to go ahead and begin involving you and training you as one of our LoC committee members. Currently we are looking for two people who could help with reaching out to companies and businesses around this area to look for donations and sponsors for our band competition. We do have sponsors that repeat but also would like to continue to seek out new sponsors. This type of person would need to be available to call or visit these sponsors to get contracts signed and to seek out for new sponsors. If you are the type that would like to get involved please let me know!

Our other committees include: volunteers, equipment and logistics, concessions, hospitality, and many more. Even if you have a rising 8th grader, we would like to get you involved now and potentially have you as the head of a committee one day. The longer you are exposed to the competition the better for all of us!

P.S. We are also looking for ATV/UTVs, golf carts, and trailers (6 ft wide by 12 ft at the largest). This is a desperate need!

Rising 9th graders: Please subscribe to http://www.chstrojanband.com as soon as possible or else you may miss very important information for our upcoming rehearsals, parade, and band camp. The most recent post on their website is about our band competitions this year. We have some off Fridays and Fall break that put our staff in a corner when picking band competitions and we want to make sure that we all are in attendance for all competitions and have not planned vacations during that time. We absolutely tried to pick dates that gave all of us the most time off to spend with our loved ones. Please check the website and CHS Band calendar now to plan ahead.

Upcoming dates:

  • Parade Practice July 3, 2019 at 8:00 am – 11:00 am
  • Fourth of July Parade July 4, 2019
  • First week of band camp: July 15-19, 8:00 am – 3:00 pm
  • Second week of band camp: July 22- 26, 8:00 am – 9:00 pm

Sincerely,

M. Menendez

Saturday June 1st Work Day

Good afternoon,

After speaking with my administration they suggested that we work before June 3rd and 4th due to the floors being waxed.

The work day will be from 9AM to noon on June 1st at the CJHS Band room. With this schedule change please let me know if you are still available so that I can have an estimated head count for lunch that day.

I will see some of you soon and thanks again to the volunteers!

Sincerely,

Ms. Menendez

June 3rd/4th Volunteer Work Dates

Good morning,

I sincerely hope that you all are resting and enjoying your well deserved summer! I am excited to begin mine as well. A quick thank you to all of you for your help this year but also for the gifts that I received at the end of the year. I am truly thankful for all of you and your thoughtfulness.

I am looking to have a work day in early June to do some tasks in our band room and could use some help. We will spray the music stands black, organize instruments and textbooks, and give the band room a deep clean. We may even knock some copies out for August as well as put together some new instruments!

If you are available to volunteer please let me know at your earliest convenience what day will work better for you. We will work from 9- Noon on whichever day works for most of us and I will provide some lunch for the volunteers.

Please let me know if you are interested by emailing me at maria.menendez@carrolltoncityschools.net

I am also looking to speak to donors or companies who are willing to donate instruments or money to purchase instruments. If you for some reason know someone who is interested in making a contribution to our band program, please let me know. Our school system is generous and provides adequate funding for our band program but as our program grows, so does our need for high quality instruments!

On top of that, if you have any ideas for new fundraisers for next year, please let me know.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Ms. Menendez

Congratulations!

Good afternoon,

We have had an incredible couple of weeks!

This past weekend our 8th grade band enjoyed their highly anticipated trip to Charlotte, North Carolina to perform in the Carowinds Amusement Park. Thank you students for a great time and chaperones for working so hard to keep our kids safe! Enjoy some pictures below of our trip!

Our Spring Concert on Tuesday was unbelievable! Jazz Band, 7th Grade, and 8th Grade had fantastic performances of their pieces and played with focus and energy. I personally felt like that was our smoothest run concert so far and could not be more proud of the hard work that our students put in, especially with two weeks of Milestone testing. The band staff and parents that helped before, after, and during the concert are part of what made the concert run so smoothly. Please know that our program would not be the way it is without your support.

This has been an unbelievable year. There are many times where a students or a parent stepped in and helped. They made our year run smoothly and allowed for me to focus on my teaching and making sure that our students had fun. I feel spoiled rotten with this band community and am so excited to continue working with many of you next year and beyond. Thank you!

Coming up:

Rookie Camp 5/13-5/15 required for all 8th graders participating in marching band. 4-6 PM

Marching band fees: Due 5/17 (8th grade only)

Last day of playing instruments: 5/13
