Thanksgiving Break

I want to wish all in the CJHS band family a happy thanksgiving. I am very thankful that I have awesome students with wonderful supportive parents.

I want to encourage you all to take your music and instrument home over break and practice a little bit when you have down time. We have a great concert on December 6th, and only a handful of rehearsals to put it all together when we come back.

Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving.

Volunteers needed for Veterans Day

Hello All,

I am in need of a parent crew (7th or 8th grade parents) that can help out during the day tomorrow to come and assist with a few things.  If you are able to help please email me.  Here is what I am looking for:

Friday, November 11th

  • 7:15 am – Chair and Stand setup at the CHS Gym
  • 10:45 am – Meet at CHS Band Room to help setup pizza stations and hand out lunch for the kids.
  • 3:00 pm – Help pack up truck at the CHS Gym and then unload at CJHS

If you are able to help out in any way I would truly appreciate it, this performance is a difficult one because I have to do a lot of transition with the kids and that leaves a lot of equipment out.

Thanks all

Veterans Day Information

As you know our 8th grade band will be providing music for all of the Veterans Day  ceremonies being held in the CHS gymnasium on Friday.  Here is what you will need to know to make sure they are prepared:

  • They should wear a coat as we will travel outside in the morning.
  • They will check in with their first period teacher and then come straight to the band room to leave.
  • They will be with me all day at the CHS Gymnasium performing, I will provide them lunch at the CHS band room.  (***Volunteers needed at 10:45am at the CHS band room please email me)
  • We will be back in time for dismissal at CJHS.

I am extremely proud of both 7th and 8th grade bands tonight. They both played with great energy and pride. What a great first concert, we are off to a great start.

Thank you to all of my parent crew members for pitching in. Setup crew was awesome, and tear down was quick and smooth.

So much to be proud of. I am one happy director. Thanks again.

Fall Concert Expectations

Hello All,

As we get closer to our performance tomorrow evening I want to let you know about some important expectations I put in place to make sure our concerts run smoothly and help to make the atmosphere enjoyable for all.

7th GRADE BAND MEMBERS:  Will report to the stage at 6:30pm for warm-up.  Flutes, Oboe, Clarinets can put their case underneath their chair.  All other wind instruments will need to put their case backstage and go straight to their seat.  No student should play until we play as a group.

8th GRADE BAND MEMBERS:  Will report to the auditorium reserved section at 6:45pm after they have put their instruments together.  Tubas will need to wait until the 7th grade is finished.  No student should play until we play as a group.

SEATING:  This year seating should be much better as we will not have the 6th grade band for our concerts.  This should make parking and seating a lot better, please DO NOT stand around the outside of the auditorium.  We will also be putting the band section in the back to allow for all patrons to sit on the main floor.

NOISE:  Please leave the auditorium if you have a restless child or noisy cough.  We do record all of our concerts for the students to listen to and reflect on.  We like to have the quietest environment in which to perform.

CELL PHONES:  Please take up your childs cell phone prior to the concert starting.  They will not need it for the duration of the concert.  Please silence your device as well, and please do not use it when the lights are dimmed.

ATTENDANCE:  It is imperative that everyone stay and support both 7th and 8th grade bands.  Please DO NOT leave after your childs band is finished.

EXTRA SERVICES AVAILABLE:  We will have a parent volunteer on hand to take 8th Grade Carowinds Spring Trip deposits and health forms.  The deposit is $50 for all chaperones and students and isn’t due until November 30th, but if you would like to get it out of the way that would be great.  We will also be selling Carrollton Trojan Tumblers for $15 if you are interested.

Thank you again for all of your support.

Coat Orders

Today we rolled out our coat sale in class.  Each student received a coat order form with three different styles.  Each coat comes with our exclusive Trojan band logo embroidered on the left side.  For $5 extra you can have your child’s name, and instrument added.  We will sell these coats until November 11th, and then turn in the orders to Ozier Apparel.

Important items to remember:

  • PLEASE MAKE SURE TO WRITE YOUR CHECKS TO OZIER APPAREL, NOT CJHS BAND.
  • PLEASE MAKE SURE TO SPELL YOUR NAME CORRECTLY AND YOUR INSTRUMENT CORRECTLY WHEN ADDING $5 FOR EXTRA EMBROIDERY.
  • COATS ARE NOT REQUIRED THEY ARE JUST A FUN ADDED EXTRA.

We have several sizes in the band room if you would like to try them on your child before writing your size.  These also make great gifts for your child if you would like to order them secretly and turn them in directly to me without them knowing, just turn the order form and money in to the front office and they will put it in my mailbox.  I will link the order form in the “Forms” section of the website if you would like to print one.

Thanks all.

Great Job !!!

I have to say I am very impressed with both the 7th and 8th grade bands this week. With only one after school to put our concert music together they both worked extremely hard.

We also saw almost perfect attendance for both bands after school. Thank you for your commitment to our band program.

Thursday, November 3rd is our Fall Concert. It will start at 7pm and last around 45 minutes. Please plan on staying the entire time for both bands. 7th graders will need to arrive and be seated on stage at 6:30pm for warmup. 8th graders may arrive at 6:45pm and report to the seating area in the audience with their instrument out and ready to go.

I have emailed the concert parent committee but I could use a lot more help setting up after school. If you can meet us next Thursday at 3:15 to help load at CJHS and then setup at 4pm at the MAC please email me. We will need around 15 people to make it go really quick. Please consider helping.

Thanks all. I look forward to seeing you all next Thursday.
