May 1st Performance

All 8th grade band members have a very special performance Monday May 1st at Tabernacle Baptist Church.

I need a parent volunteer crew to come out to help setup after school at Tabernacle. Please email me if you can meet at 4pm at Tabernacle.

Students should report at 5:45pm dressed up nicely. No band uniform is required but I would like to have everyone wear Professional / Sunday dress wear. We will perform two pieces of music at 6:30pm.  After we perform the students will be dismissed to either go get setup to receive awards or you may leave if they do not need to stay.

I am always honored to be able to open for this event and I look forward to showing off some of our new selections.

Please email me if you can volunteer. This setup always takes a bit more help than usual.

Band and Chorus Awards Night

Hello all,

Tomorrow looks like it is going to be a fun night. Thanks to all who came out to help decorate.

Here are some things to remember:

  • All students and volunteers can arrive at 6pm. No need to be early.
  • We will have a photographer on site to shoot studio portraits if you would like to come in and grab an order form.
  • You can bring your one item to the registration table and someone will bring it to the solarium.
  • We will do awards in the cafeteria around 7pm.
  • We will be done right at 9pm for everyone to help tear down.
  • It might be a bit rainy to start but it should clear out by the time we’re done.

Thanks all.

Monday May 1st Performance (8th grade)

Hello all,

On Monday May 1st the 8th grade band will play at the Tabernacle Baptist Church to open the CJHS Awards Evening.

Here is the timeline:
3:30-4:30:  Parent volunteers meet at Tabernacle to help setup. Please email me if you plan on helping setup.

5:45pm: Students should arrive early and be seated by 6pm. School owned instruments should get them off the truck.

6:30pm:  Perform

7:00pm: Students go get setup for receiving awards, others may leave.

8:00pm:  Awards night ends, all students must go back to the stage to get instruments  and help pack up the truck.

8th grade band students will not need to wear their band uniforms. They should dress nicely however. Boys should have nice slacks and a polo or shirt and tie. Girls should wear nice pants and a blouse or a dress.

This performance is mandatory for all 8th grade band members regardless of whether they are receiving an award.

Thanks all

Big Week Ahead

Hello all. There is a lot going on this week, here is the rundown:

Tuesday:  7th grade after school. Mandatory. 3:30-4:30pm. Pickup promptly at 4:30pm at CJHS.

Wednesday:  Last day for Band and Chorus Awards Night forms and fees.

Thursday: 8th grade after school. Mandatory. 3:30-4:30pm. Pickup promptly at 4:30pm at CJHS.

Friday:  People who volunteered to help decorate should arrive at 3:30pm to the band room. We should be done by 4:30ish.

Saturday:  Students and Volunteers should arrive right at 6pm. Arriving early is not needed. We will be done right at 9pm. The students will sign up this week for the one item they are supposed to bring.

Thanks all. I’m looking forward to great rehearsals this week and a lot of fun on Saturday.

One More Thing

I forgot to include this info about auditions.

8th grade students should meet in the junior high band room after school Tuesday.  We will walk over together and the kids can then warm-up and get in line for one of the audition rooms.

The HS band calendar says it will be open from 3pm – 6pm but I would imagine your child would be done somewhere around 4:30pm.  Pickup at the HS band room.

If you would like for your child to go home and you can bring them up to the school before 6pm that would be fine too.

Thanks all.

High School Auditions Tomorrow

Hello 8th Grade Parents,

As you know tomorrow is the high school band auditions for all rising 9th graders.  This is a very exciting time for your child as they will be given an opportunity to show off what they have prepared in order to find which concert band class they will fall into.

The high school has three levels of band:

Concert Band, which is primarily made up of 9th and 10th graders.

Symphonic Band, which is primarily made up of 10th, 11th and some 12th graders.

Wind Ensemble, which is primarily 11th and 12th graders.

The bands are seated by score not by grade level however, so if your child performers well tomorrow afternoon they could finish in one of the upper bands.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

ALL OF THE STUDENTS REGARDLESS OF WHICH CONCERT BAND THEY ARE IN WILL BE IN THE MARCHING BAND.  The students will work a bit on marching band music during the school day in class, but the majority of the marching band work will take place during band camp and after school rehearsals.

ONCE THE PROCESS IS COMPLETED MR. CARR WILL ALERT THE HIGH SCHOOL SCHEDULING DEPARTMENT AND YOUR CHILD WILL BE ENROLLED FOR THAT CLASS.  ALL PERCUSSIONISTS WILL BE ENROLLED IN PERCUSSION CLASS WITH MR. ROBICHAUX.

COLOR GUARD AUDITIONS ARE ALSO TAKING PLACE THIS WEEK AND MR. CARR WILL SCHEDULE THEM ONCE THAT PROCESS IS COMPLETED.  YOUR CHILD SHOULD STILL AUDITION ON THEIR INSTRUMENT FOR CONCERT BAND.

This process can sometimes be a nervous one for rising 9th graders.  The entire band staff wants you to know that it will be an extremely supportive environment.  We want your child to get the best musical experience possible in high school and this audition helps to tailor the perfect path for them going forward.

Please feel free to stop in to watch and listen, ask questions or fill out paperwork.  The Don Hall Band Room at the high school will be open and their will be a buzz of excitement in the air.

Thanks all.

Concert Date Update

Hello all,

We have been asked to move our Spring Concert date to May 9th due to many events happening the first week of May on campus. Please update your calendar to include May 9th as the Spring Convert date from 7-8:15pm. I apologize if you have already made plans for May 4th. This switch will hopefully ease families having to run around to many different concerts and award evenings.

Thanks

Hello all,

I wanted to thank you for an abundance of AYP card orders. We have about 200 cards left to sell so I have given the students all a goal of selling just 1 more card. Please help them to sell atleast 1 more and we will be done.

You children have received up to four new pieces of music and have been working on a lot of new skills in class. Please remind them to bring their instruments home to practice a little bit this week during early release.

Thanks again, I look forward to seeing you all this week during conferences.
